DELTA GAMMA

One of the exhibits on at the Saatchi gallery during our visit was 'DELTA GAMMA'- an exhibition of young artists work from across the world. I loved this exhibition because of its energetic busyness, because it was by a range of artists, the works were many and of all sorts of themes and materials. I found the idea of curating an exhibit around a time of art rather than a particular style or theme really interesting as it encouraged you to notice the patterns emerging in upcoming art.

The paintings below that i have named Women's Stomach and Collection of Faces (These are not the artworks real names and i stupidly did not note down the artists of either work) were the two paintings (or, respectively, set of paintings) i took the most interest in taking inspiration from. I love the way that, in both these works, the artist has kept the brush strokes really loose. The painting on the left, 'Women's Stomach', is much more figurative than the ones on the right. Whilst the artist has kept the brush strokes free, the choice of color and placement is so precise that it is easy to see what the painting is. My favorite part of this painting is the bow because it perfectly showcases the artists use of rough strokes to create a distinct image.

The paintings on the right, however, are much more abstract. If these paintings were displayed individually it may be difficult to interpret what they are of or to understand the energy put forwards through the set- it is clear thee are not stand alone works. Whilst each painting is distinct, the set is made with mostly dark, muted tones, with highlights of vibrant colors almost poking through. I really love how the artist has blended his strokes in these paintings- it is much more in lieu with how i feel comfortable painting. As somebody who struggles to finish a single work, i am blown away by this artists ability to create works that go so harmoniously together in a set. I really want to make some paintings inspired by this artist and this set of works.
